TSI and College Entrance Exams
These exams help measure student readiness for college-level coursework or for their specific program. They also help determine if additional courses or interventions are needed to prepare students for success in their college career and field of study. You will not be denied admission to the Alamo Colleges (San Antonio College) based on your TSI Assessment scores.
TSIA 2.0
The Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) helps identify a student’s proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics to determine their level of readiness for college coursework. Following the TSIA, students may enroll in college-level classes or in courses or interventions to help them prepare for success in college-level coursework. No student will be denied admission to SAC or any Alamo College based on their TSIA or college placement scores.
Only testers and San Antonio College personnel are allowed in the Testing Room. Children, parents, spouses, and friends are not allowed in the testing room.
See below for resources to help prepare for a successful TSIA exam. Parents, spouses, and friends are not allowed in the testing room.
Incoming students who do not need to take the TSIA may enroll in college-level courses without testing. See a list of exemptions here or contact an advisor for more information.
The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 or TSIA 2.0 is a state mandate placement exam required for all students planning to enroll in public colleges or universities to assess a student’s proficiency in Writing, Reading, and Math. Not all students need to take the TSIA 2.0 exam. There are many ways a student can be exempt meaning they do not need to take the TSIA 2.0 exam, see Exemptions. The TSIA 2.0 exemptions are subject-specific, which means a student may qualify for an exemption in one area (such as ELAR) but not in another area (such as Mathematics). Undergraduate students who enter without an exemption are required to take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA 2.0).
Your scores on the TSIA 2.0 will determine if you are ready to take college-level courses. Students scoring at or above the College Readiness Benchmarks below are eligible for college-level courses. If your scores don’t meet the criteria, you may be placed in a developmental course or provided an appropriate intervention. You may also be in a corequisite model course, where you enroll in a college-level course while taking a developmental education course/intervention to help ensure your success in the college-level course. Contact the Advising Department for course placement using Common Entry Requirements. You will not be denied admissions to the Alamo Colleges based on your TSI Assessment scores.
No Cost TSIA Exam: Active applications with San Antonio College may take the TSIA exam for FREE. This excludes re-testers for the TSIA, early admit, home school dual credit, dual credit, early college, P-TECH or T-STEM.

TSIA 2.0 Testing for Non-Alamo Colleges Students
The SAC Assessment and Testing Center also provides TSIA 2.0 testing for San Antonio-area students planning to attend a college or university other than SAC or outside of the Alamo Colleges District. SAC will proctor the TSIA 2.0 exam with a voucher issued by your college.

It’s designed to help students understand the importance of the TSIA for their academic career and placement, what to expect when taking the TSIA, and how to prepare for the test.
- After receiving your voucher from your home school, please schedule your TSIA2 appointment here. Your Banner Number is your college or university name.
