English as a Second Language
What is the ESL program?This year-long program helps international students, immigrants, professionals and others learn to speak, listen, write and read English. It’s part of the Center for English Language Learning (CELL) at San Antonio College, which prepares non-native English speakers for college or to pursue professional careers. What will I learn?You’ll learn to understand spoken American English; to read written English with fluency and understanding; to speak using Standard American English in work, home and the community, with correct pronunciation; to write using clear grammatical structures; and to understand English grammar to complement your speaking and writing skills. |
What can I do with this course of study?This course of study prepares you to transition to and succeed in college-level classes and develop the communication skills to succeed in English-speaking workplaces and communities. What is special about the program?The Center for English Language Learning at SAC has earned national accreditation from the Commission on English Language Program. As an ESL student you’ll have free access to campus computer laboratories and free tutoring at the Writing Center and other labs on campus. You’ll also have access to workshops and support groups including reading circles, a conversation club, pronunciation practice and other learning opportunities. |
