Social Work
What is the Social Work program? This program gives you a foundation of the skills, knowledge and training necessary to help improve the lives of people and their communities in a wide variety of settings. What will I learn? You’ll develop a better understanding of human behavior and the needs of individuals, families, groups and communities as you build a foundation of case management skills. You’ll learn about delivering services to vulnerable populations in complex environments and connecting clients with resources. You’ll get experience with interviewing, assessments, counseling and communication skills, along with an understanding of professionalism and ethics. What can I do with this course of study? This program gives you a strong foundation for various careers in social work, human services, counseling and related fields. You’ll be prepared to continue your education by transferring to a bachelor’s degree program. While many social work jobs require a bachelor’s or master’s degree, you may pursue entry-level positions in non-profit or governmental organizations. Social workers work in a variety of settings, including public and private agencies, schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, schools, senior centers, private practices, child protective services, the criminal justice system and more. |
What's special about the program? In addition to an associate of applied science degree program, SAC offers a 30-hour Level II Case Management Certificate in social work, available fully online or face-to-face. This certificate gives you an in-demand skill set that you can begin using immediately and also provides career-enhancing training for those in psychology, criminal justice, sociology or related fields. Our faculty are professional social workers who bring a wealth of experience and compassion to the classroom. While the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) does not currently accredit two-year programs, we strive to meet accreditation standards by aligning our program with CSWE standards.
