Department: Natural Sciences

College: SAC

What is the Biology: Pre-Professional program?

The Biology Pre-Professional program is designed for students who intend to pursue careers in health professions such as medicine, optometry, dentistry, physical therapy and veterinary medicine. Upon completing this program, you’ll be ready to transfer to a university to earn a bachelor’s degree, then enter a professional program to prepare for a healthcare career.

What will I learn?

You’ll learn the foundational knowledge to prepare you to transfer to a university, with an emphasis on biology, chemistry, physics and math. By completing general education courses at SAC, you will be able to transfer into a university’s bachelor program as a junior.

What can I do with this course of study?

Upon completion of an associate of science and a bachelor of science in this field of study, you can pursue admission to a professional school to complete your graduate education.

What's special about this program?

Finishing an associate degree with a pre-professional emphasis allows students to incur less debt on the path to a professional healthcare career. Because interaction between faculty and students is one of the biggest drivers of student success, this program includes smaller class sizes for more individual attention, faculty and student tutors in the BioSpot learning center, and a faculty advisor.
