What is the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Bridge program?The RN-BSN Bridge program consists of three semesters of nursing courses to be completed in one year. The intent of the program is to allow graduates from the San Antonio College Associate Degree in Nursing who have obtained licensure, to begin working, and then continue higher education while working in the community. There are two program tracks offered: hybrid and online. The hybrid option requires 50% face to face and 50% online instruction. The online option offers instruction remotely. The program contains clinical, however the clinical courses for the RN-BSN program are project based and allow students an opportunity to utilize their work based experiences to identify a problem and use research to support change. What will I learn?The RN-BSN Bridge program consists of courses pertaining to leadership, community health, research, and ethics. Students enrolled in the program will learn essential tools to be a nurse leader and transition into the new role designated for a Baccalaureate-prepared nurse. The coursework will provide a foundation for students interested in advancing education and leadership opportunities. What can I do with this course of study?Associate-prepared nurses have assumed the role of the bedside nurse. Opportunities for leadership and community health are limited to baccalaureate-prepared nurses. With this course of study, the student will be expanding their knowledge and skill set to assume another role in the community. Students will also be able to understand and apply research to practice and gain the skills and knowledge to assume leadership roles in the clinical practice setting. Lastly, students will be able to assess a population and determine the appropriate recommendations that are necessary to support health promotion and illness prevention. |
What educational opportunities are available?The educational opportunities that are available for students that earn the baccalaureate degree are that they would be prepared to apply for admission into a graduate program. Accrediting and regulatory bodies have recognized San Antonio College RN-BSN Bridge program as a school that meets regulations to be able to grant a baccalaureate degree. Program Admission
All applicants must be in good standing with the Texas Board of Nursing and have an active nursing license. All prerequisite courses must be completed, however the admissions committee will review the transcripts and develop a plan to complete any missing prerequisites. All transfer credit must be submitted to the College for approval. We encourage all to apply for consideration regardless of completion status with prerequisites. All prerequisite courses have earned transfer credit if an individual is transferring from another institution.
The admission requirements for the RN-BSN Bridge program is:
- Photocopy of Texas Board of Nursing RN Licensure and verification of license status on the state Board of Nursing Website.
- Copy of official transcripts and all official transcripts need to be sent to Admissions and Records
- One letter of recommendation
- Proof of completion of an Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Pending Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) approval, F-1 visa holders are not eligible to apply for the program at this time.
Application Process
All applicants for nursing studies MUST be fully enrolled in San Antonio College. Submit your application through the Apply Texas website and verify that you are applying for the semester that you will be entering.

Complete all prerequisite core requirement courses with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a C or higher in each course.

Provide evidence that the license is unencumbered current for Texas or an Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact RN License.
One letter of recommendation either from a previous employer or from a current employer on official letterhead.
Complete the online application and submit all required documentation by uploading them.
All additional documentation can be scanned and submitted with the application under “Upload Transcript” in PDF-only format. Name/identify the document by using the “College/University name” area.
The application process is an ongoing process and notifications are sent within 2 weeks of application submission. Notification can include pending documentation needed, acceptance, or denials. Initially, notification letters will be sent to the personal email address provided on the Nursing application. All subsequent emails will be sent to ACES email address (@student.alamo.edu). Official Filing Periods
The applicant is eligible to apply twice a year for the fall and spring terms with limited space available. The application will remain open, identify which semester is preferred.
