Two Phi Theta Kappa Members Named as 2023 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars

Two students who are members of San Antonio College's Beta Nu Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) international honor society have been recognized with prestigious scholarships from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

Aeriana Davila, a biology major, has been awarded a 2023 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship. She said she was elated when she received news that she won the scholarship, especially since it was the first time she had won an award.

Davila plans to transfer to the University of Texas at San Antonio once she graduates from SAC and continue to major in biology.

Samuel Caspers received the Coca-Cola Military Leaders of Promise Scholar award, which is given to PTK members who are active personnel or veterans of the U.S. military.

Military Leaders of Promise Scholars are selected based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential. A panel of independent judges selected this year’s recipients from more than 1,100 applicants. Only 25 Military Leaders of Promise Scholars are selected each year.

Caspers served as an All-Source Intelligence Analyst on active duty for the Army from 2014 to 2015. At SAC, he serves as the interim vice president of leadership for SAC’s Beta Nu Chapter and volunteers at the Catholic Worker House in San Antonio.

He intends to transfer to Texas A&M University at College Station. His goal is to become an automotive powertrain/propulsion systems engineer as well as earn a commission in the Army Reserves.

Phi Theta Kappa recognizes academic achievement at two-year colleges. San Antonio College was awarded a chapter in 1932.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program was launched in 2001 to assist new PTK members in obtaining an associate degree and encourage participation in PTK programs. Since 2012, four San Antonio College students have been named Leaders of Promise Scholars, with Caspers being the first Military Leaders of Promise Scholar.
