“I feel like St. Philip’s College is home. I’m going to miss the professor-student relationships and small class sizes. I know I’m going to be homesick when I leave,” said student Destiny Castro as she reflected on her time at SPC.

After beginning her academic journey in Spring 2022, she immersed herself in the community at SPC. Over the period of just a year and a half, she has tackled a challenging full course load each semester, demonstrating remarkable dedication to her studies while balancing motherhood and being a real estate agent.

Destiny's academic trajectory took a turn when she took a science class and then was offered the NASA Community College Aerospace Program. These two events aligned her true passion and merged two science subjects, Biology and Astronomy. “I want to be an Astro-Biologist and explore life-sustainable ideas and living in outer space. I want my 3-year-old daughter to have someone to look up to and even to surpass. I want to open doors for her and other kids to see that they can do big things too,” she said.

As Destiny celebrates graduating with her Associate of Science Degree on December 15, this will mark the beginning of a new educational chapter out-of-state. Destiny plans to attend California State University.

Congratulations Destiny!
