This event is FREE and accessible to all Masters (faculty), Staff, Peer Mentors, and Galactic Administrators. Our mission is to share knowledge across the Alamo Colleges District and neighboring institutions about the importance of mentoring diverse communities.
Conference objectives: To enlighten the higher education on the myriad of ways mentoring cultivates success. To unveil the various dimensions where mentoring manifests.
Topics to include echoing our cosmic theme, seamlessly integrating into the vast galaxies of mentoring:

- Rallying Masters, Staff, Peer Mentors, and Community Members to Mentor

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Luis Ponjuan
Dr. Luis Ponjuán is a tenured faculty member, researcher, and public policy scholar in the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University. He earned his Ph.D. in Education (Higher Education Administration) with concentrations in advanced quantitative methods, evaluation and assessment, and organizational psychology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. His faculty career spans across two AAU SEC institutions, Texas A&M University and University of Florida. He is a bilingual speaker, Afro-Cuban immigrant, naturalized U.S. citizen, and first-generation college graduate.
Dr.Ponjuán has developed a research agenda focused on Collegiate men of color, Latino/a students, students from low-income backgrounds and urban areas, historically underrepresented students in community colleges, STEM NSF-REU research experiences, and the professional development of faculty members of color.
Dr.Ponjuán has received national and state level recognition for his research on Latino/x collegiate men. He is co-editor and author of the book, “Ensuring the Success of Latino males in Higher Education: A National Imperative”. Last year, he consulted with Madam Vice President Kamala Harris about the challenges facing men of color. Over the last decade, he has presented at the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, the U.S. Congress, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, the Nevada Higher Education Board of Regents, Black, Brown, and College Bound national conference, Mississippi Community colleges, and the Texas Association of Community Colleges.
Dr.Ponjuán, throughout his career, has earned over three million in grants from the ECMC Foundation, Greater Texas Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, The Trellis Foundation, National Science Foundation, and University of Texas at Austin.
