Dr. Sitakanta Mohanty Named Dean for Academic Success

Dr. Sitakanta Mohanty has been appointed Dean for Academic Success at San Antonio College.

He brings a wealth of experience in teaching, strategic enrollment planning, consensus building, and management to this key role, which will include the areas of Allied Health & Kinesiology, Business and Entrepreneurship, Nursing Education, Protective Services, and Languages at SAC.

He has been with the Alamo Colleges District since 2018, most recently serving as Palo Alto College’s department chair for Advanced Manufacturing, Technology, Engineering, and Logistics (AMTEL), Agriculture, Healthcare Administration, and Veterinary Technology. In addition, he taught as an associate/assistant professor and adjunct faculty in the departments of mathematics and engineering.

He also served as an adjunct faculty member at San Antonio College and St. Philip’s College.

Prior to Alamo Colleges, Dr. Mohanty had a distinguished 24-year career at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio as a research scientist and institute engineer and earlier worked as a research engineer at ARCO Oil and Gas Company in Plano. He is a former member of the board of trustees of the Mind Science Foundation, whose mission is to explore the vast potential of the human mind.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) in India, a master’s in engineering at the University of Alabama, and a doctorate in engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.
