Law Enforcement Academy to Start Full-time Classes
May 30, 2024
The San Antonio College Law Enforcement Academy will be offering full-time classes for the law enforcement program starting July 8. The classes will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the First Responders Academy located at 15775 IH35 South, Atascosa, 78002.
This is the first time the Law Enforcement Academy will offer full-time classes. Previously law enforcement training was offered on a part-time basis. The full-time program is being offered to help address a shortage of qualified law enforcement officials and fill vacancies in departments across the state.
Students who enroll in the program will graduate in December with a Level 1 Certificate in Law Enforcement and will be ready to sit for the Basic Peace Officer Licensing Program. Once they pass the exam, they will be able to start working as a Texas Peace Officer.
To apply for the Law Enforcement program, students should be 20 and a half years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass a fingerprint background, medical and psychological exams. Enrollment is now open until Friday, June 28.
All classes will be held at SAC’s new First Responders Academy, which opened for classes in January this year. The academy is a $20 million, state-of-the-art facility, which includes classrooms a two-story tactical room that can be used to simulate several training scenarios, a firing range, and a driving range.
In addition, cadets will be issued guns, ammunition, handcuffs, and batons during coursework.
Classes will be held twice a year, with the first program starting in January and the second in July.
