3D Print Studio General Policies

  • Most equipment is available on a first come, first served basis. Appointments can be made for our 3D printers.
  • The Print Studio is open to the faculty, staff and current students.
  • Minors 14 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Printer use is restricted to 1 printer per person at a time so that as many patrons as possible can have a chance to use the printers.
  • The 3D Print Studio will be staffed at all times so if the staff member is out momentarily, please do not use specialized equipment (3D printers, scanners, etc.) until the staff member returns.
  • Visitors are responsible for the safe and responsible use of all equipment. Disregard for 3D Print Studio policies, equipment, or supplies may result in a ban from the Print Studio. If in doubt, please ask MegaLab staff for assistance.

Supported Printing Projects

All objects printed on the 3D printer need to comply with the Alamo Colleges Copyright Policy, the Intellectual Property Policy, and the Appropriate Use of Information Resources Policy. Items deemed physically impossible (design causing a print failure, not enough supports, no back-fill, etc.) will be rejected. Items that will not physically fit on our build platform will be rejected or resized.

Files Supported -Although any 3D modeling software can be used, all files submitted must be either in .STL, .OBJ, or .THING format. Files that are not in one of these formats cannot be printed.

How to pay for 3D Projects

  • Once you have received your quote from the Mega Lab staff you will be directed to pay in “Alamo Market Place Mall” 3D Print Studio Store. Follow the instructions on the screens and make your payment. The Mega Lab will receive an email notifying them the project has been paid. The project will then be printed.
