External Scholarships

External or "outside" scholarships consist of privately funded scholarships that are sponsored by private donors, professional organizations, foundations, and other sources outside of SAC.  

Places to check for college scholarships:

  • Financial Aid Office of the school the student plans to attend.
  • Check with local organizations and community foundations -- S.A. Area Foundation, Assistance League of S.A., Rotary Club of S.A.
  • Sign up with State & National scholarship search sites like -- ComptrollerTexasGov Education Aid, SallieMae College Scholarships; Federal Student Aid, CollegeScholarships.org, Scholarships for Women; Federal Money.org
  • Employers -- Find out if the employer of you or anyone in your family offers scholarships or grants.
  • Free online scholarship searches -- Cappex, Chegg, Fastweb, Niche, Petersons, Unigo, Zinch, Scholarships.com, SchollyStudent Scholarship Search, BigFuture, GoodCall
  • Use Google to find scholarships. Use words from your life story also such as your major, passions, interests, talents, or any descriptor which makes you unique. Narrow your search by adding words such as foundation and scholarship.
    • A&M University scholarships (specific school)
    • Criminal Justice scholarships (specific major)
    • Minority male scholarships (descriptor)
  • Single mother scholarships (descriptor)

Once you have compiled the online resource information, make a spreadsheet of the scholarship name & the deadlines for each...and start applying. Follow their instructions closely.
