Counseling is now a service line offered through the NVC Student Advocacy department. Sessions are currently being offered both in person at Pecan Hall or via Zoom video conferencing. Please contact us for more information!
Difficult issues can get in the way of academic success. Trained and licensed staff can guide you in personal, social, and/or psychological matters such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and grief. We can help you manage these issues, your responsibilities, and other personal situations.

Free, Anonymous Alcohol and Mental Health Screening:
Free, anonymous online screenings are available to all Northwest Vista College students. Screenings are available for: Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder, Alcohol Abuse, Eating Disorders, Anxiety, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The screening is provided so that you may find out, in a few minutes, whether or not professional consultation would be helpful for you.
TimelyCare
The Alamo Colleges District is now partnered with TimelyCare to deliver a new virtual health and well-being platform for students. Through either a mobile app or your desktop, TimelyCare provides 24/7 access to virtual care from anywhere in the United States at no cost. This service is FREE! Whether you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, you can talk to a licensed provider to get the care you need via phone or secure video visits. To get started, visit timelycare.com/alamo or download the TimelyCare app from your app store. Enter your student email, and you'll be redirected to ACES to login.

- Consultation - Counselors are happy to provide consultation to faculty and staff on a variety of emotional and behavioral issues affecting students.
- Outreach Services - We can arrange to visit your class and present on a variety of topics: counseling services overview, sexual assault awareness, healthy relationships, stress in college, guided relaxation, internet safety, and more!
- Trainings/Workshops - Counseling provides trainings on QPR Suicide Prevention, SOBI, Veterans Transitioning to the Classroom, and other topics directly to faculty and staff. Please consider a training for your next department or division meeting!

Reporting Toolbox

The Strategies of Behavioral Intervention (SOBI) policy at the Alamo Colleges District was created to guide our College community to recognize, prevent and respond to students-of-concern, or incidents that are disruptive, threatening, or violent. When in doubt, please report!

Examples of concerning behaviors include (but are not limited to):
- signs of harassment
- intimidation
- extreme anxiety,
- depression,
- threatening harm,
- erratic behavior, or
- disconnect from reality.
Faculty and staff are often in a position to recognize students who are at risk; however, students are encouraged to review the SOBI guidelines and report concerning behaviors to the SOBI response team.
The Northwest Vista College SOBI Response Team consists of the Director of Advocacy, along with campus counselors, disability specialists, veteran's affairs staff, and campus police.Please call us for more information.
