(Fostering Undergraduate Education, Retention, and Transfer Environments)

With support from the Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program, this Track 2: Implementation and Evaluation Project will increase the number of Latinx students who obtain bachelor's degrees in STEM fields, including both those who enter St. Mary’s University as first-time freshmen and those who transfer from Northwest Vista College.

We are looking for highly motivated STEM students to participate in this exciting program.

Students participating in the program will receive:
  • Academic and Career Advising
  • Financial Aid Advising and Scholarships
  • Paid Research and Internship experiences
Eligibility Requirements

Plan to attend St. Mary's University when you transfer

  • Be a current student at NVC (full-time or part-time) majoring in a STEM field.
  • Have no more than 45 semester hours earned.
  • Complete and submit the FUERTE application.
  • Send a Letter of Recommendation from a faculty member to Thomas Pressly, tpressly@alamo.edu

The grant is focused on increasing transfer and success of STEM majors in environmental science, physics, computer science, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and engineering at Northwest Vista College and St. Mary’s University.  However, all STEM majors (including students majoring in technology, sciences not listed above, and social sciences) are welcome to apply and participate in the program.
