PLUS+ STEM
Portal Leading to Undergraduate Success (PLUS+) in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM)
This grant aims to narrow the prevailing disparities in STEM higher education with respect to pursuit of STEM majors, retention, persistence, success, and degree completion among Hispanics, low-income, and other underrepresented populations.

Currently accepting applications for Spring 2025
Purpose
Through the grant we propose to enhance academic and student support, and educational quality to augment students' academic skills, knowledge, and educational success needed to successfully complete STEM studies and compete in the workforce.
Grant priorities include:
- Foster the student higher education and STEM access process;
- Increase student-college preparedness in STEM;
- Strengthen student STEM competencies and success;
- Increase student transferability, persistence, and degree attainment; and
- Improve data measures to track student success.
Opportunities
NVC students pursuing STEM studies will have opportunities to engage in undergraduate research experience, STEM concept knowledge development, and career exposure activities consisting of supplemental application-based instructional support in STEM disciplines, STEM careers exposure, industry visits, and guest STEM industry lecturers.
Requirements
- Participate to receive a stipend of $8000-9000 Per Year
- Be a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics Major (STEM Major)
- Be a Full-time student with at least 12 hours each Fall & Spring semester and at least 3 hours for Summer
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA
- Have 30 hours or less earned college credits

Currently accepting applications for Spring 2025
You must either be a current student or have completed an application (such that your admission is in process) at Northwest Vista College to be eligible. You must be a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) major, or planning to transfer into one of these majors and have Northwest Vista College as your home college.
